Using a Microscope to Analyze Hair Loss
Uncover and Determine Causes of Hair Loss
Using the microscope is not new for analyze and determine causes of hair loss. Trichologists have been using it for years but typically not to the extent that we have. Most use compound microscopes to view th e exterior shaft and bulb of the hair.
Our methods allow us to see inside the hair bulb and shaft to view the medulla, the cortex and the cuticle. This allows us to see the color formations in the cells where the hair reproduces.
It also allows us to see build-up on the hair shaft and the hair bulb especially the dermal papilla.
Notice in the photo below that in the interior of the hair you can see green (medulla), and then a slight haze of magenta around the green (cortex), and finally the yellow (the cuticle).
Why don't more dermatologists and doctor use the microscope to determine cause of hair loss?
We aren't quite sure other than there is a large investment (over $20,000) for a proper microscope. We also believe that most Doctors succumb to the falsity that all hair loss is DHT related. Most are not properly trained for this type of diagnosis.
Most of the people that use our service have been to many doctors trying to treat their hair loss and the doctors offer them nothing. Many times our clients have tried Propecia and Rogaine to no avail. We believe that the only truly effective way to treat the cause is identify the cause.
Can microscopic analysis detect all kinds of hair loss? The answer is not all. It can however detect the major causes or rule them out so that you can focus on the minor causes.
