Pattern baldness

Pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia is experienced by 50-80% of Caucasian men. In women, this may vary between 20-40%.  This kind of alopecia affects the hair follicle wherein the follicle reduces in size and the active growth phase duration is also reduced. Pattern balding is most often attributed to DHT, and enzyme that restricts circulation on the head and scalp leaving several well-documented pattern effects as it progresses across the scalp.

Androgenetic Alopecia in Women

While adrogenetic alopecia is most commonly experienced in post menopausal women, it may also occur during early puberty. Other factors that trigger the cause include intake or stopping of contraceptives, pregnancy, and menopause. The underlying cause therefore becomes the hormonal changes that start to take place within the body causing female hair loss.
